There are tons of reasons why people blog .Some do it for recreational reasons some people do it as a means to earn a living.
Before I go on take note that this post is for pros, beginners and those in between .
The opportunities that are on the internet to land jobs, contracts ,speaking engagements on news sites is promising .
Keep in mind that only a small percentage of bloggers however they are average people like me and you.
I bet If I surveyed 100 people and asked them about the prospects of being featured on Forbes I am willing to guess at least 60 percent will give me a yes.
There are multiple techniques you can use to spruce up your website but today we are narrowing it down to one specific technique.
Todays topic is about upgrading content.
And No there are not any specific qualifications that you need to do it . You just have to be willing to do a few things that will get you more traffic and more readers .
What we are about to discuss today is known in the public domain but t is highly un-used.
Read the post below for more from my fellow Aussie blogger Darren Rowse.
The reason why I think that the technique is under used is for the simple facts that it takes work and patience for it to work.
I haven’t been using the technique all of this time myself.
On another note I do not want you to feel stressed and overwhelmed trying to figure the process out.
With that in mind I am going to try my best to explain this to you in a way that is easily understood.

I know what it was like learning and applying something new for the first time . It can be frustrating. .
But Mark my words you and I are on a level playing field .I am not an expert in this area but I do have some knowledge about this subject.
Lets find out why people read blogs in the first place .
People read blogs to search, find information, buy products join as a subscriber or to casually scan your websites pages out of curiosity.
According to a survey conducted by (Source: DemandGenReport) 47% of B2B buyers read 3-5 blog posts or content pieces prior to talking with a sales person.
To make a long story short if you do not have a blog you are leaving a lot of potential sales and readers out in the field that might be interested in your services.
This re-affirms why you should be renovating your old post.
Hence why I am upgrading this post as we speak.
I remember a few weeks ago I wanted to upgrade one of my pages but I never did .
Procrastination ,laziness to say the least.
But I realized that if I wanted the traffic I would have to update my archives periodically.
Not Every post on your website needs to be updated but you should make sure that you find time to revisit a few of them every now and then.
Sometimes simple tweaks are enough to boost an old post. For example ;new images , a few extra keywords can do the greatest of wonders and boost your search engine performance at the same time.
Think about All the sweat ,the long hours you pump into blog production just to let it sit idle and collect dust after one publication. That is insane ?
That is how some of us operate our blogs and we wonder why we aren’t ranking or getting more views
With that being said I think that updating is an area that more bloggers needs to make a priority.
I am accustomed to creating new content on a weekly basis .
But Modifying content is a good way to give readers a fresh perspective about the same subject.
Here is something else you need to know
On the internet ranking matters .So if your over all goal is to boost your search visibility and be found on the first few pages of google then you need to incorporate a content upgrading strategy .
Wouldn’t you want the extra traffic on your site ? I know that I do.
I like the idea of being able to flood my web site with new visitors.
Upgrading is now my forte !
Now Make sure that you are making the changes for Legitimate reasons
Reasons like
- Compressing images
- Adding new images
- Adding missing keywords
- Add missing information
Everything that I mentioned can improve your blog rankings and over all reader experience.
This A win win situation .
So It is only right that you give a few of your outdated pages the attention and love each of them deserve.
As you can see thus far that periodic blog posting upgrates is helpful and beneficial in more than one way .
Further more with the amount of new information being shared on social media on a daily basis it is easy for your site to lose a few position on google . Further more if I publish a more advanced guide to this post this one might lose a few positions in search.
If The ultimate goal of hosting a blog is to provide value, build a loyal following ,rank and increase readership then you had better pay attention .
Because news site produce global and macro news daily .Hence why so many people are drawn into them.
So upgrading your archives not only drives more traffic but if done right it increases reader engagement.
When you increase reader engagement that means people are spending more time on your site which is also aboost in the searcengine deoartment .
See .. there is a direct correlation between search engine optimization and content upgrades .
When you get a chance go back revisit your home page about me page and other pages to see which ones needs more attention.
Like now I am writing beefing up my word count which means I can over take the shorter post because I am going more in-depth with a much more natural flow of keywords.
So Over all the strategy of upgrading website pages is becoming one my favorites.
This my first one to-date.Lord knows how many visitors I could have had on my site if I acted earlier
But such is life .
Now back to my point.
Lets do a brief analysis so you can get a better understanding of the benefits.
Pause for a moment and think of what you need to do in order to sustain your blog.
Well we need people to read our content pay for subscription or other services that we provide.
So any which way you can improve readers experience you should do it.Updating is just one of the mundane ways I have chosen as a vehicle to transfer value over to you.
The more you entertain your tribe the more likely it is that they are going to stick around .
We cannot afford to take anything for granted in the blogging community.
- Traffic drops easy
- Websites get penalized from google
- Some Peoples have short attention spans
All of these variations must be taken into consideration and conclusions drawn therefrom.
My purpose and intent of mentioning what I did above is to help you see the bigger picture.
Because Some of us are one-dimensional so we often find ourselves stuck doing the same things over and over.
Time to change that around with this article.
Have you have heard the saying “it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks?”
The statement holds true because some of us are rigid.
You have to be versatile and willing to exploit all the opportunities to improve your blog.
So moving forward I am urging you to check your library and make the necessary modifications in your archives.
I am going to write down a list of ideas to help boost your outdated pages.
- Change your titles
- Open up the post with a quote
- Use stats
- Add bullet points
- Add a video
You Might just find a million more ways spice up your website.
But Now that you have the foundation it is time to implement what you have learned.
Website updating is a free method that will get you traffic. After getting your initial boost of traffic you can put some marketing dollars behind the post to help boost it even further.
I hope that this is all starting to make sense now that you understand and know how and why content updates are so important.
The idea and application in of itself is not absurd it is just that some writers do not have the patience or will to do it.
Tweaking updating pages is not an act that requires specialized skills but it is the gains sought through doing it that count.
I promise you this is not an exercise in vain
Some times It is the tiny tweaks that separates blogs on the first three pages of google from the rest.
No ;It does not have anything to do with coding even though I doubt ranking ever will.
Any how you get my point.
Now on to my next point.
The market is flooded with bloggers so finding and applying techniques that will help you to stand out and increase your market share is vital.
Did you ever take note of the blogs you see on the first 3 pages of google ?I spoke about it briefly but I did not go into detail.
Stay with me to crack the code and unlock the treasure
The Reason being is that those websites have good relevant content and their pages are updated on a regular basis.
Maybe you are saying “I am going to find it hard to write entertaining content .”
I will speak about that in another post and no there is no secret to that either.
Back to my point.
Ranking on the first few pages is my aim .So if I am not able to rank I have to work harder sharing, podcasting guest posting to get my brand by way of link building.
For all intents and purposes this not a how to rank post.what I am doing is using examples to help bring my point across .
Now it is time for you to really get in to the swing of things .
Execution is on you
It is best to learn and develop skill sets that will help take you further as a blogger .
There are millions upon millions of blogs on-line but very few including mines are making a major impact.
I am not taking away from the fact that I am growing my tribe but this is more to do with the fact that there are improvements that need to be made.
Blogging is like any other hobby or craft it takes great work time and discipline to succeed . Patience is a must.
People rush to sign up for blogs with short-term plans to get readers ,sell ad space and other related services.
